Acadian Home Builders Association (AHBA) was founded in 1960 by a group of visionary builders who saw the need to form an organization dedicated to advancing the homebuilding industry. Over the years, AHBA has grown to become an influential association in Acadiana representing over 800 members and four parishes: Lafayette, Acadia, St. Martin, & Vermillion. The AHBA includes builders as well as associate members whose industries support homebuilding such as real estate companies, mortgage lenders, and subcontractors.
The Acadian Home Builders Association is a chapter of the Louisiana Home Builders Association (LHBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and all members belong to all three organizations. AHBA strives to make Acadiana a better place to live and has strict membership qualifications and a Code of Ethics by which all members must abide.
AHBA also serves as a consumer information agency to residents of Acadiana who are in need of a licensed builder, remodler, or other subcontractor. The association provides a point of contact to the public regarding industry issues, laws, and licensing and also conducts consumer events annually such as the Blueprints Home, Garden, & Leisure Show and the Parade of Homes.
The Acadian Home Builders Association continues its commitment to improving the professionalism and image of our membership by educating consumers about the importance of doing business with AHBA members.
Civic & Community Involvement The Acadian Home Builders Association (AHBA), a nonprofit (501C 6) trade association is dedicated to the Acadiana community. In keeping with the AHBA official mission statement, the membership utilizes some of it's major events to support those Lafayette agencies which strive to provide shelter to those less fortunate and experiencing troubled times. AHBA also has a commitment to education. They exhibit this commitment by supporting those institutions that strive to produce a skilled workforce for the residential construction industry.
UL Construction Technology Endowed Chair AHBA used many of it's annual events as well as pledges from the membership to raise $60,000.00 to be matched with $40,000.00 from the State of Louisiana to sponsor an endowed chair at the university. The 5-year goal was achieved in 4, thanks to the enthusiastic support of the membership. The dream was realized in 1999 when a full-time Construction Technology Professor was hired to expand the program at UL. AHBA now works closely with that department to develop program curriculum which will ultimately prepare the students for this increasingly complex industry.
There are many reasons to join AHBA. Here are just a few of the benefits and services offered by the association:
